We offer two different types of initial teacher education courses:

- Employment Based Initial Teacher Education (SCITE)
All of our Initial Teacher Education routes will provide you with an abundance of practical training in schools as you begin to become a reflective practitioner.
The Which Course Frequently Asked Questions sheet available to download here may help answer some of your queries.
School Centred Initial Teacher Education (SCITE)
This is for those who already have a degree and are looking to get qualified on a one year course. This course is a mixture of school based training and taught central sessions. The majority of your time will be spent in school placements, training in schools.
We offer:
- School Centred Early Years and Primary Initial Teacher Education Programmes
- School Centred Secondary Initial Teacher Education Programmes
What is a School Centred Initial Teacher Education (SCITE) Programme?
The School Centred Initial Teacher Education (SCITE) programme allows candidates to obtain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a continuing professional development (CPD) portfolio. The course was designed with a commitment to the importance of ‘hands-on’ practical training. This, together with our strong partnerships with local schools and colleges means we are able to provide some of the most distinctly ‘school-based’ teacher education courses currently available.
School Centred courses are organised in a way in which partner schools are given considerable responsibility for the training programme; they are courses in which school based Training Managers (Professional Mentors) and Subject Mentors personally guide, monitor and continually assess the progress of individual Trainee Teachers.
These one-year full-time courses aim to help Trainee Teachers become capable, confident and well instructed professionals within their chosen subject or phase.
Formerly the West Mercia Consortium SCITT and the Marches Consortium SCITT, we are now bringing all of our Initial Teacher Education courses into one provider - the Robert Owen Foundation. >> more about the SCITE courses
Employment Based Initial Teacher Education (EBITE)
For those who already have a degree, or two thirds of a degree, are employed on the terms and conditions of an unqualified teacher at a school and want to train whilst being employed by that school.
We offer:
- Employment Based Initial Teacher Education Early Years and Primary Graduate Teacher Programmes
- Employment Based Initial Teacher Education Secondary Graduate Teacher Programmes
- Employment Based Registered Teacher Programme
- Employment Based Overseas Trained Teacher Programmes
What is an Employment Based Initial Teacher Education (EBITE) Programme?
Employment Based Initial Teacher Education (EBITE) Programmes allow candidates to obtain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a continuing professional development (CPD) portfolio whilst being employed by a participating school (note that the Registered Teacher Programme and the Overseas Trained Teacher Programme lead to Qualified Teacher Status only). The Robert Owen Group works in conjunction with a partner school to manage the training and assessment.
Formerly the Robert Owen Consortium EBITT, we are now bringing all of our Initial Teacher Education courses into one provider - the Robert Owen Foundation. >> more about the EBITE courses
