MA (Education)
The MA (Education) is a postgraduate study programme offered in partnership with Birmingham City University. It provides an ideal opportunity for our Trainee Teachers to continue their professional learning with the Robert Owen Group.
Who is the programme for?
This is a flexible part-time programme intended for qualified teachers working in early years, primary and secondary education.
How will the programme help me?
The MA modules will support both your personal and professional development as a qualified teacher and provide you with a portfolio of evidence of your career development and professional experience.
Module tutorials will give you opportunities to draw upon the support and expertise of your tutors and fellow students.
The programme gives you options to gain a postgraduate certificate (60 credits), a postgraduate diploma (120 credits), or a full Masters (180 credits). If you already have Masters credits from your Initial Teacher Education course, you will be able to progress very rapidly to completing your full Masters Degree, needing only 3 modules (120 credits) to qualify for the full award.
Wherever possible the assignments are designed to enable you to gain credit for relevant development or project work undertaken as part of your teaching role.
In the future teaching will become a Masters level profession. A Masters degree can enhance your career progression options and promotion opportunities.
How is the programme delivered?
A variety of teaching methods are used. Some modules may be delivered through a series of small tutorial groups with session dates negotiated between the tutor and students. Other modules will be taught by weekend or one-day study courses. Most modules will include some on-line learning support through the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and regular e-mail contact with tutors.
Venues for taught sessions will be chosen to be as convenient as possible for participants. These may include Robert Owen Group centres in Bromyard or Leominster.
How are modules assessed?
Most of the assessment is by written assignments of vary type and length. Some modules involve the option of submitting a portfolio with written evaluation.
