Presenting a 2009 Co-operative Award to the NACO General Secretary
As members of the NACO National Association of Co-operative Officials General Council assembled on Wednesday 24th February 2010 for their meeting in Manchester the National President, Jack Devers, announced that there would be a presentation to Neil Buist the NACO General Secretary.
Chris Morgan, President of the Robert Owen Group and also a member of the NACO General Council then presented Neil Buist with the Robert Owen Group’s Co-operative Trade Unionist of the year 2009 award, Neil had been unable to attend the November 2009 Graduation Event in Hereford Shire Hall so this special presentation was arranged prior to the start of the General Council’s Business.
In his presentation remarks Chris reminded council that in order to achieve the award the following criteria had to be met:
- The nominee has worked to support interests of the Robert Owen Group staff and students either now or at a past time in the development of the Group
- The nominee has publicly upheld the Co-operative Values and Principles
- The nominee has shown that s/he is prepared to go the extra mile to support the Group’s activities and our staff and to make their communities better places in which to live
- The nominee is an outstanding and inspirational co-operative trade unionist committed to human and social development through co-operation
Chris then said that specifically Neil had been instrumental in the agreement between NACO and the Robert Owen Group. Neil has thrown his full backing behind the co-operative partnership Agreement and the Robert Owen Group has benefitted tremendously from the interaction.
The Directors and Trustees of the Society that comprise the Robert Owen Group are proud of our national agreement with NACO.
This agreement means that all employees within the Group are encouraged to enter NACO Membership with their fees paid by the Group.
It may be of interest to our members to learn a little more about NACO which is a professional management association and an affiliate of the TUC, representing management and Professionals in the Co-operative Movement.

NACO has grown alongside the Co-operative Movement to be a major and respected professional body representing in excess of 90% of managers in consumer Co-operatives.
Another proud event for the Robert Owen Group as we celebrate our membership of the international of Co-operative movement.
