Celebrating Success at our Annual Graduation & Awards Evening
The Robert Owen Group’s twelfth Initial Teacher Education Graduation & Awards Evening was held at Hereford Shirehall on Friday 15th November 2010.
This year saw over 200 trainee teachers graduate through the Robert Owen Group to become qualified teachers. Graduates, with their families and friends attended an enjoyable evening of celebration at the Shirehall, along with schools, colleges and staff from the Robert Owen Group.
The guest speaker at the event, Mr David Sanders, Interim Director of Children’s Services at Herefordshire Council, himself a qualified teacher, spoke to graduates about the importance of teachers in society and encouraged the graduates to think about their future careers and what difference they want to make.
Abi Horsburgh, Customer Relations & Marketing Manager at the Group, said,
“Our Annual Graduation & Awards Evening is always a fantastic event at which our graduates come back together to catch up and celebrate their success. Each year we have graduates travel from all over the West Midlands region to gather in Hereford. Our graduates work really hard throughout what is an intensive and demanding training year to successfully qualify as a teacher and this evening has been a real celebration of this as they look forward to their teaching career ahead.”
Graduates attending the event received their PGCE qualification, which is validated by Birmingham City University. The Robert Owen Group also awarded 23 Co-operative Awards, recognising colleagues, partners, graduates and establishments who have aspired to the values and principles of co-operation.

Many of the teacher training graduates from the Robert Owen Group are now successfully undertaking their first teaching posts in local schools across the region. The evening was a celebration of the hard work and dedication of the graduates to achieve qualified teacher status, and of the partnership between the Robert Owen Group and local schools and colleges.
