Birmingham City University Graduation

Trainee Teachers from 2009-10 celebrate at the University

On Thursday 17th February, Birmingham City University held their graduation ceremony at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham. Whilst the Robert Owen Group hold their own very successful graduation ceremony in the autumn term for those obtaining their PGCE award in the previous academic year, all of our graduating Trainee Teachers also have the opportunity to attend the University's event.

As the validating body for our PGCE courses, graduating Trainee Teachers from the Robert Owen Group join all of the other successful education graduates from the University at this ceremony. The event is full of the usual ceremonials that we associate with Universities, with all academic staff and successful graduates wearing gowns, and graduates receiving their certificates from the Chancellor of the University, who is always the current Lord Mayor of Birmingham.

This year all of our programmes, across both the School Centred Initial Teacher Education (SCITE) and Employment Based Initial Teacher Education (EBITE) courses, were represented by graduate Trainee Teachers, as well as our staff members being part of the procession. Richard Martin was present to represent the Trustees of the Robert Owen Group. It was also nice to see colleagues from last year: Tony Coles who was our Head of Initial Teacher Education, and Christine Brown, who was the Secondary SCITE Programme Manager.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable event, and was good to see the success of our ITE Programmes and the success of our Trainee Teachers being celebrated in such grand surroundings.
